Hey y’all, since I’m at the bus back home right now I basically felt like writing the text for my next travel guide – the destination is cute little Copenhagen.
I went there to meet up with my online friend Rebekka for the first time that I’ve known for almost five years right now, and when she told me she was going there for a concert I was up for it almost instantly.
Since I live in northern Germany, the cheapest way was going by bus which took me about five hours and was 35€ one way.
Just a few days before I was going our airbnb host actually cancelled the airbnb (don’t trust people, they’re idiots), so we had to find a new place to stay as fast as possible.
We decided to stay at the Happy Hour Downtown hostel which is about 20€ per night and person in a mixed dorm. If you plan to stay at a hostel (aka the cheapest option) remember to pack some ear plugs because there will be at least one great snorer in your room that will bother the shit out of you. Promised.
The hostel itself was super cute and has hipster-ish vibes with loads of neon lights in the lobby, which is a bar as well. When you’re a guest you get 10% off food and drinks, so that’s also cool. I would definitely recommend you booking on their website, since that offer is including free dinner as well.
If you wanna buy anything (and I really mean anything), I would definitely advise to just get money at one of like 10000 ATMs in Copenhagen, since almost every bank charges you at least 1,25€(!) fee for any payment by maestro card. If you take off money at an ATM, it’s only about 5€ charge for once.
Enough small talk about the bothering stuff, there are actually way more interesting things to tell. Prepare for 0% sights and a lot of cute places you’ll get to know right now!
COPENHAGEN
THRIFT SHOPS
I really need to start with this topic because when a friend of mine who lives near the Danish border told me there were a lot of nice second hand stores in Denmark, I was totally excited to shop there. When I went to some „røde kors genbrugsbutik“’s I was actually very disappointed. Most of them are quite small and don’t have any clothes older than a few years. They’re not super cheap as well, and since I’m a sucker for vintage stuff this wasn’t very pleasing. If you want to go to some thriftshops anyway, I recommend these:
RØDE KORS MEGASTORE
what? one of the biggest charity shops I’ve been at in Denmark, even though it’s still not that big.
where? Fælledvej 4, 2200 København N, Dänemark
Thriftshop Rating? 2/5. Basically not as huge as you would imagine a „megastore“, but since I saw some adidas and cheap Monday stuff for not too much and it’s right in the trendy district Nørrebro, it might be worth a visit.
EPISODE
what? a vintage store with h&m prices, part of the chain that you can find in many European countries.
where? Larsbjørnsstræde 8, 1454 København K, Dänemark
Thriftshop Rating? It’s actually 4/5, it has a great selection of vintage but it’s slightly more expensive than in countries with € because of DKK.
KØBENHAVN K
what? a thrift shop just around the corner of episode with slightly lower prices
where? Studiestræde 32, 1455 København K, Dänemark
Thrifting n Rating? 3/5. it’s less interesting or big than episode but still worth a visit if you’re looking for vintage adidas stuff, cute sweaters and granny clothing.
TIME’S UP VINTAGE
what? A little vintage shop surrounded by trendy concept stores.
where? Krystalgade 4, 1172 København K, Dänemark
shop rating? 3/5. Don’t go there if you actually wanna buy something unless you’re a millionaire. Try to see this as a museum with loads of versace, dior, Hermés ect clothes from the last century to dream of.
FOOD
Right now, let’s come to the good ’n‘ food part! Even though eating out is more expensive than in Germany, you can risk more because I didn’t find have anything I didn’t like at all. What’s also really admirable is that many restaurants and cafés only serve certified organic food.

DEMOCRATIC COFFEE BAR
what? A coffee bar close to many independent concept stores and right next to a library where you can watch all people learning with the same MacBook model (not kidding!)
where? Krystalgade 15, 1172 København K, Dänemark
Coffey reyding? 4/5. They coffee is really good and they’re great at latte art, but since I’m from Germany 35DKK is quite expensive for me for a regular cappuccino.
COFFEE ROOFTOP BAR AT ILLUM
what? a trendy Café on the rooftop of downtown shopping centre Illum (the shopping center itself is really expensive though)
where? Illum, Østergade 52, 1001 København K, Dänemark
Coffee rating? 5/5. First time I tried a drink called ‚london fog‘ (would recommend). Quite a nice view if you go outside (would recommend!). Their toilets actually have the perfect selfie light (would recommend!). Plus this is a good place to view shitty tourists from above (as a shitty tourist).
BASTARD CAFÉ
what? A Café with about one billion board games you can play, some of them are even free of charge.
where? 1466 k, Rådhusstræde 13, 1466 København K, Dänemark (right next to the hostel)
worth it? 4/5. Since it’s a bar as well as a Café it’s open until midnight and sometimes even longer. I only went there at night and ordered different teas (caffeine at night is bad if you’re staying at a hostel, so please just skip it) that were all really good and you even get some candy for free as well. Anyway it’s sad that not all board games are free.
DØP
what? this is basically a certified organic hot dog stand you can find downtown. Vegan hotdogs are available as well.
where? Amagertorv 31, 1160 København K, Dänemark
Plant-based Rating? something between 4/5 and 5/5. This was actually the most expensive hotdog I ever ate (40 DKK). anyway it’s organic and it was totally vegan, what you don’t even notice. It’s worth a visit if you wanna eat something to the 35 DKK falafel sandwich or Asian takeout box you can get basically everywhere.
LA NETA / MIKKELER
what? a mexican restaurant as well as a hipster beer store.
where? Nørrebrogade 29, 2200 København N, Dänemark
rating? 5/5. Very cheap for Copenhagen and quite a good address if you wanna try some Mikkeler craft beer. Plus not only the restaurant itself, but also their bathroom fulfills aesthetic dreams.
MUSEUMS / EXHIBITIONS / BARS / ECT
BOTANISK HAVE
what? the official botanical garden of Copenhagen.
where? Øster Farimagsgade 2C, 1353 København K, Dänemark
aesthetic / relax-rating? 5/5. Since the botanical garden is free and looks super aesthetic, it’s definitely worth a visit. Plus it’s warm inside because there are many tropical plants. There’s also a big park at that location that looks really pretty in Autumn.
GLYPTOTEKET
what? I don’t know. I really don’t know. I think it’s best to categorize it as a „statue and plants“-museum (Or something totally different, no one will ever know!)
where? Dantes Plads 7, 1556 København, Dänemark
worth it? 5/5, definitely! I’d recommend you going there on a Tuesday
since the museum is free that day. It’s not just aesthetically pleasing but also a good place to try getting kicked out of a museum by the way.
GL STRAND KUNSTFORENINGEN
what? an art gallery with changing exhibitions. when I was there it was about Stanley Kubrick.
where? Gammel Strand 48, 1202 København K, Dänemark
exhibit rating? 5/5! Even though it isn’t free it’s worth the money (at least the exhibition I saw) because there were loads of original props from his movies.
SAMS BAR
what? a karaoke bar that might be at least 40 years old.
where? Frederiksberggade 28, 1459 København, Dänemark
rating? 5/5 if you like total trash (I really do). You’ll meet loads of old men that pay your drinks and you’ll find yourself singing along with them even though you hear all the songs for the first time. If you’re not really into many people, I’d recommend going on a Tuesday/Wednesday since it’s quite empty then. Also a nice place to enjoy asian takeout with fake music videos.
SUPERKILEN PARK
what? I’m not sure, but I think it’s a (skate?-)park.
where? Nørrebrogade 210, 2200 København N, Dänemark
rating? since I haven’t been there and this has only been recommended to me, I don’t know anything about it. But I guess it’s great for taking pictures.
BARKING IRONS TATTOO
what? A downtown tattoo studio. I know this is actually a weird tip.
where? Vestergade 27, 1456 København K, Dänemark
tattoo rating? 5/5. Even though I didn’t get a tattoo myself, bekka got two super beautiful ones for 700 DKK. She said it wasn’t painful at all and the studio is good and fast. If I’d get a tattoo, I’d definitely get it there because their prices are amazing as well.
AN ANTI RECOMMENDATION
last but not least, I have to confess I don’t get the hype over Christiania.
It’s basically a super crowded place with tourists being pathetic about weed. I felt 100% uncomfortable there and there are so many better ways to spend your time.
That’s it, even though I still have plenty of more tips but these are the coolest places I’ve been at (or heard of). I’d also recommend you to start saving locations on Google maps, it’s not just super satisfying to have places you want to visit all over the world but it’s also great to suddenly notice you’re close to a place on your list.
